1. Are you a morning or night person?
2. If you could trade lives with someone for a day, who would it be?
What a good question! I feel like I would want to choose someone who is a true expert at something I have no experience with, but during a peak day for them. Like a concert cellist performing in a great hall, or a master carpenter working on a beautiful piece of furniture, or a professional athlete during a championship game.
3. If a film were made out of your life, what genre would it be and who would play you?
I think my life could be an indie dark comedy – one that was substantive and slightly heavy, but with a comedic script and characters. I could be played by someone like Zoe Kazan or Cristin Milioti. Someone with good versatility, who is relatable, but has a lot of range and depth.
4. If you were famous what would you be famous for?
Aside from designing the most sustainable luxury footwear in the world! It would probably be for something music related. Definitely still something creative, and where I could use my platform to promote activism while creating.
5. In a music playlist about your life what song couldn’t miss?
Don’t Stop Me Now by Queen! Not only am I always going, going, going, but it’s the type of song that makes you drop everything you’re doing to sing every word and dance around like a maniac.
6. What song are you listening to now?
At this exact moment, I’m listening to “Make it Wit Chu” by Queens of the Stone Age

7. Name one brand you always look up for.
Acne Studios. Their leather goods, shoes, accessories, jackets, they’re such statements!
8. What did you want to be when you were younger?
I wanted to be a professional singer /musician. I still work on music on the side, but always just for fun.
9. On a scale of 1 to 10, how sustainable is your brand/company?
As far as brands go, I want to say we’re a 10! Of course, I don’t actually believe that anyone can truly be a 10 because sustainability is a perpetual process, and the nature of production is that you’re consuming resources, so it’s kind of an impossible thing to truly measure. Plus, new things are developing so rapidly, that today’s 10 could be next year’s 6. But by then, we’ll be onto the next ’10’. It’s a moving target, but we always do our best to stay at the forefront, and it’s so deeply important to how we operate.
10. What is your favorite piece from the collection and why?
It’s hard to pick just one, as I really love them all! But I just got my second color in the Jayne boot, and it’s a style I’m so proud to have designed. I love color blocking, and bold statements that aren’t overpowering, and these boots to me check all those boxes. Plus they come in our signature apple leather, and a beautiful all-black version in our vegetable-tanned leather (which I just added to my personal collection.) They’re definitely a great wardrobe staple.
11. How did you get into this (Sylven New York)?
I have always been obsessed with shoes – to me, they are the pinnacle of self-expression. And I was born on Earth Day and grew up leading my school and community in sustainable initiatives. So after working in the footwear industry for a few years, I decided to launch something of my own. I knew that values and aesthetics were going to play equally important roles, and thus, Sylven New York was born.
12. Where do you draw your inspiration from?
Perhaps unsurprisingly, I am incredibly inspired by nature. From the veins of leaves to phosphorescent deep-sea creatures, I am always looking to nature for design cues. I also love looking at interior design and have been on the ’60s and 70’s interior kick for a few years now. But sometimes the best ideas come from happenstance. Passing someone on the street, watching a documentary, listening to music, having a particularly deep meditation, really anything can strike inspiration. For me, it’s all about mindset and being open to new opportunities.
